Product Details
Species: White's Morpho / White Morpho (Morpho whitei)
Morphological Characteristics:
The Morpho whiteiis a rare and highly sought-after species within the Morpho genus, distinct from its famous blue relatives. Native to the primary rainforests of the Amazon Basin in South America, this butterfly is a master of subtle elegance.
The dorsal (upper) side of the wings is a pristine, pearly white, often with a subtle pearly sheen in certain lighting. Unlike the vivid blue Morpho menelaus, the M. whiteilacks bright pigment, making it a ghostly and ethereal presence in the forest.
The ventral (underside) side is where the camouflage lies. It is a cryptic brownish-grey, adorned with intricate wavy lines and a series of distinct, small eyespots near the wing margins. When resting with wings closed, it perfectly mimics a dead leaf.
This specimen is a study in contrast—the brilliant white upperside versus the cryptic underside—showcasing the duality of visibility and invisibility in nature.
