Morphological Characteristics:

The Morpho menelaus, often called the Blue Morpho, is one of the most iconic and visually stunning butterflies in the world, native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America.

The dorsal (upper) side of the wings displays an intense, iridescent metallic blue that seems to glow. This brilliant color is not from pigment, but from microscopic scales on the wings that refract light, creating a shimmering, holographic effect.

In contrast, the ventral (underside) side is a cryptic mosaic of browns, greys, and black, adorned with a series of distinctive eyespots that help the butterfly camouflage itself against tree bark when its wings are closed.

With a wingspan reaching up to 15 cm, this specimen is a breathtaking representation of nature's artistry and optical wonder.
